New Steel Needles V modern cartridge

  • Hi All,
I have managed to collect (ebay rubbish, unwanted) a lot of 78rpm in the last 4/5 years. now there is  a few recordings from the 1911 to the 1930s ,which have been enjoyed and used over the years. This is noticeable from the scratches and general condition of the recordings. How ever put a new steel needle in the gramophone and wow they play in most case with excellent  results.
I also have a number of radiograms from the 1940s and while the sound is fair to ok for these older disks ,(pre 1930s) i find not as vibrant as a new steel needle in a gramophone.

My question is how many collectors use new steel needles on their pre 1930 recordings.? as opposed to a modern cartridge ,to listen and enjoy the sound ?
